Hello, I am Ujjwal, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Amsterdam. My research focuses on artificial intelligence techniques applied to marketing tasks, specifically focussing on the development of algorithmic techniques for extracting and comprehending subjective consumer perceptions. The objective is to understand how consumers perceive intangible attributes of a product or service using visual or textual evidence – for example when potential diners examine restaurant atmospherics through user-generated images. Through large-scale analysis of online visual and textual data, I strive to uncover patterns underlying the perception of such attributes.

My doctoral advisors are Prof. Willemijn van Dolen and Dr. Stevan Rudinac and I also receive additional inputs and supervision from Prof. Marcel Worring and Dr. Joris Demmers.

My research interests revolve around real-world problems that involve multimodal data. Currently, I am part of the multimedia analytics group MultiX within the Informatics Institute at the University of Amsterdam. Previously, I worked on task-driven question-answering problems as a member of the I-Machine-Think group at the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation. In 2016, I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from VIT University, Vellore, India, and in 2018, I completed my Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
